If you have made the decision to install sod at your home or business, it is important to know what steps you need to take in the following weeks to care for and maintain it. In order to avoid damage or death to your fresh lawn, it is important to follow these steps for the first 2 weeks:
- Water your Sod and Keep the Soil Moist! It is critical to water the sod once installed and to do so enough so that the soil under the ground is moist at least a few inches beneath the sod. It is also important to not drench the area as over-watering could cause mold to grow. Spray water across the lawn a few times a day and long enough so that the soil will remain moist. It is also important to consider the weather in your area. If the temperatures are high, then you will need to factor in the water will evaporate much faster, so it is important to have a plan in place to stay on top of the watering to avoid allowing the soil to dry out.
- Keep Off the Grass! It is very important to stay off the grass for at least the first 2 weeks after installation. Any and all foot traffic should be avoided at all costs!
